A Joint Initiative by Himalayan Outdoor Project & Hamro Run Club

18 schools have been physically damaged by recent flooding across Rasuwa, Nuwakot and Dhading, Nepal.

For children, a damaged school is more than a damaged building.
It can mean losing a safe place to learn, play, make friends, take part in sport and imagine a future.

We want to help restore that opportunity.

Himalayan Outdoor Project (HOP) and Hamro Run Club (HRC) are launching an ongoing fundraising campaign to support communities affected by the floods with the long-term goal of helping restore or rebuild a flood-affected school.

And we need your help.

Who We Are

Sagin Rai is the founder of Hamro Run Club (HRC), a UK-based community running club built around the motto “Move to Inspire.” Originally from Nepal and now based in the UK, Sagin is passionate about using community and sport to create positive opportunities.

Rajiv Chand is co-founder of Himalayan Outdoor Project (HOP), a Nepal-based initiative focused on adventure, education, leadership and community development. As a Nepal Army Major and former Special Forces officer, Rajiv brings strong local connections and experience working with communities in Nepal.

Together, HRC and HOP are combining their networks and experience to support communities affected by the recent floods in Nepal.

Our £15,000 Fundraising Target
Our initial goal is to raise over £15,000 towards the recovery of a flood-affected school in Nepal.

This target is based on the scale of the damage and the role we believe a community-led campaign can realistically play.

The Government of Nepal's Rapid Damage and Needs Assessment identified 18 schools affected by the floods across Rasuwa, Nuwakot and Dhading. Of these, 11 school buildings were completely damaged, while seven sustained partial damage.

The scale of this need makes one thing clear:

£15,000 will not rebuild an entire school on its own.
Our £15,000 target is therefore intended as a meaningful starting contribution towards a locally identified school recovery project.

The final project will depend on what we find on the ground, the condition and priorities of the selected school, support already available from government and other organisations, and the amount ultimately raised.

Our approach: Fundraise and Plan Together
This will be an ongoing fundraising campaign, with fundraising and project planning taking place alongside each other.
Phase 1 - Raise & Listen
We will begin fundraising while HOP works with affected communities, schools and local authorities to understand the needs on the ground.
Phase 2 - Assess & Identify
We will identify a suitable school and establish what support is most needed, taking into account existing government rebuilding plans and other available resources.
Phase 3 - Plan & Fund
We will develop a clear project plan, budget and timeline based on the assessment. If the needs identified are greater than £15,000, we will continue fundraising where appropriate.
Phase 4 - Build & Support
Funds will be directed towards the agreed priorities — which could include repairs, classroom furniture and equipment, learning resources, digital facilities, sports equipment, safe activity spaces or other essential improvements.
Phase 5 - Report & Show the Impact
We will share the project, budget, progress, photographs and outcome with our supporters so people can see how the funds have been used.
£15,000 is where we start not where the journey ends.

The more we raise, the greater the potential scope of the project.
Our commitment is to listen first, plan responsibly and use the funds where they can make the greatest practical difference.

Our aim is to support one school but to do more than simply replace what was lost.

We want to help create a safer, stronger environment where children can learn, develop confidence and have opportunities to participate in sport and other activities.

A shared mission
This is a joint initiative between HOP and HRC, built around values we both believe in.
HRC was founded on the philosophy “Move to Inspire” using movement and community to promote health, connection and opportunity.
HOP uses adventure, education, leadership and endurance sport to help people discover their potential and create opportunities for their future.

Different organisations. Different backgrounds.

One shared belief:
Communities already have strength, resilience and potential. Our role is to help create the opportunity for that potential to grow.
This fundraiser is one way we can put that belief into action.

We won't decide from a distance

We have not yet chosen the school.

That is intentional.

We don't want to decide from the UK or Kathmandu what a community needs.

Instead, Rajiv and the HOP team will work directly on the ground, speaking with affected communities, local municipalities, ward representatives and school management committees.

Together, we will identify a school in Rasuwa, Nuwakot or Dhading where our support can make a meaningful and practical difference.

Once the school is identified and local stakeholders agree to work with us, we will develop a clear plan covering:
• The school's needs
• The work required
• The project budget
• How funds will be allocated
• The delivery timeline
• The role of the local community and authorities
• The expected impact on students

Where could your money go?
The Nepal Government and local authorities have their own responsibilities and plans for flood recovery.

We want our contribution to complement that work, not duplicate it.
From Nothing to a school again.
Depending on the needs identified, donations could help provide:
1. Modern Classrooms for Every Child
2. Electricity, Water and Essential School Services
3. A Library for Learning and Discovery
4. A Computer and Digital Learning Centre
5. A Science and Practical Learning Centre
6. Safe Toilets, Clean Water and Hygiene Facilities
7. A School Hall for Learning and Community
8. A Proper Playground for Every Child
9. Sports Facilities for Fitness and Teamwork
10. Outdoor Learning and Adventure Space
11. A School Garden and Environmental Learning Area
12. Safe Spaces to Play, Explore and Grow
13. Equipment and Resources for Teachers
14. Furniture and Learning Materials for Every Classroom
15. A School Built for Sport and Adventure
16. A School That Builds Confidence and Leadership
The final use of funds will be based on the local needs assessment and agreed with the school and relevant authorities.
Every donation counts

How Your Donation Will Be Handled
We want to be completely transparent about how the funds will move.
GoFundMe donations will initially be transferred to the personal UK bank account of Sagin Rai, the organiser of this fundraiser, while we work towards establishing an appropriate longer-term arrangement for holding and transferring the funds for the project in Nepal.
GoFundMe has a transaction fee of 2.9% + £0.25 GBP per donation.

The funds will then be transferred to Himalayan Outdoor Project, in Nepal specifically for the school project identified through our local assessment with Himalayan Outdoor Project, the school and relevant local authorities.
The money will not be used for personal purposes.

As the project develops, we will continue to explore an appropriate UK-based charity or other suitable arrangement to support the secure and transparent transfer of funds to Nepal.

Any future arrangement will be communicated to supporters, together with updates on how funds are allocated and transferred.

Our commitment is to be transparent throughout the process and to provide a clear record of how the money raised is used.
We will keep clear records of:
• Total funds raised
• GoFundMe fees and the net amount received
• Transfers made to Nepal
• Project expenditure
• Any remaining balance
As the project develops, we will share appropriate updates, supporting information, photographs and details of how the funds have been used.
The exact school and project will be identified through consultation with the affected community, school representatives and relevant local authorities. We will not transfer funds for the project until the school and the intended use of the funds have been established and agreed.

Our commitment is simple: donations will be used for the purpose communicated through this fundraiser, and we will show supporters how their contributions have been used.
We want this project to be open and transparent from beginning to end.
As the project develops, we will share:
✓ The school selected
✓ The local needs assessment
✓ The agreed project and priorities
✓ The project budget and allocation of funds
✓ Progress updates and photographs
✓ The completed project and its impact

Why start fundraising now?
Recovery doesn't happen overnight.
Before rebuilding can begin, communities need time to assess damage, coordinate with authorities and identify what is genuinely needed.
We want to start building that support now.

Be part of it

Whether you donate, share, volunteer, offer your skills or simply tell someone about this campaign, you can help.
This is about bringing people together from communities in Nepal to people across the UK and around the world and turning small individual actions into something much bigger.

Together, we can help rebuild more than a school.

We can help rebuild opportunity.

We can help create a future.
