Cathy's Stem Cell Transplant

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Jennifer and this fund is for my mom.

My mom, Cathy Scott, is the strongest and bravest person I know.  I'm sure there are many others who’d say the same thing.  Most people know her as a very tough, yet very fair, high school math teacher.  I can't tell you how many people I've heard say, "I hated math until I had your mom as my teacher."  Odds are you've seen her MnMs memorabilia collection grow as the years go by.  But I bet you didn't know the tremendous medical hurdles she's had to overcome throughout the years.  At ages 39 and 46, she battled breast cancer (and won, of course)!  Yes, that's twice!!  Three years ago brought more cancer in the form of two lymphomas, but she never gave up and beat those, as well.  Anyone who knows my mother knows that she doesn't give up easily AT ALL.  Her faith has not only carried her through everything, it has also helped her maintain a positive attitude.  I marvel at how she does it with such grace.
Her hair had just started to grow back when she received more cancer news earlier this year.  Another lymphoma, but this one has knocked her down a lot harder than expected.  The chemo treatments have been way more aggressive, causing her to take a year and a half sabbatical/leave from teaching.  In July, she suffered from several blood clots moving from her legs to her lungs.  A very close call!  But she knew God wasn’t finished with her story yet.
She is now at the point of needing a stem cell transplant.  In just over a month, at MD Anderson, she will receive stem cells from a very generous anonymous donor.  Thank God for this person!  This "procedure" isn't what you'd see on TV.  It's not a hospital trip and then you're fine.  In total, she will have to live in Houston for 4.5 months.  Insurance is covering the transplant (at the tune of $1.2 million), but all other expenses are out of pocket.  In addition, she has to have 24/7 care while in Houston.  Friends and family are giving up their time and money to stay with her during these months, for which she's been tremendously grateful.
This fund is to help cover costs associated with apartment rent, her deductibles, caregiver travel expenses and missed teacher salary.  Any tiny little bit helps!  Even $10 donations add up.  Remember…she’s a math teacher!  =)
If my mom has touched your life in a positive way and maybe even made you appreciate math a little more, please consider helping her out.  God bless you all!
