In late 2019, after about a month or two of constant pain and discomfort in her abdomen and several doctor visits, mom saw a G.I. doctor who ordered a CT scan, colonoscopy, and ultrasound. They found a bowel stricture and some inflammation near her gallbladder. She was scheduled to have a bowel resection, but during the surgery, the surgeon found hundreds of tumors in her abdomen and was unable to perform the bowel resection. The biopsies of the tumors came back showing adenocarcinoma. The oncologist diagnosed her with primary peritoneal carcinomatosis (stage 4 ovarian cancer). After 6 rounds of chemo and surgery, things were looking good. However, a few months later, the tumor markers were elevated again, and a scan showed fluid in her lungs. Mom was put on chemo again and went through the process of getting the fluid drained from her lungs. Then in August of last year, she found a lump in her breast that was growing rapidly. A biopsy revealed that it was not breast cancer, but that the ovarian cancer had metastasized. She has been on several different chemotherapy drugs that have not been successful thus far. Because of the fluid on her lungs, it has caused her to experience shortness of breath and she is now on oxygen at home. She is back on chemo once again, but is hoping to find some alternative treatments that will hopefully be more promising. Unfortunately, insurance does not cover a lot of these new treatments and it is very expensive. We have decided to begin fundraising to help cover her medical expenses and travel costs. Every small amount helps, and we hope that you will consider donating to give mom more options in her battle to beat cancer. Thank you for considering to give towards her cause and your prayers are appreciated!
