Cathy went to see her family doctor on Tuesday, January 2nd with pains that she thought could be caused by an ulcer or her gall bladder. The doctor felt Cathy's stomach and side and as soon as she felt her side, she told her she was sending her to the ER immediately. She told her not to worry about checking out, just get to the ER - and gave her a tight hug. Her GP is an amazing doctor and friend.

At the hospital, they got her in asap and did an ultrasound. The ER Doctor came back to the room and told Cathy that there were masses on her gallbladder and liver and they needed to do biopsies. She was then admitted to the hospital Tuesday night, and had the biopsies Wednesday morning. The biopsies did not go well for Cathy, she had a very hard time coming off of the anesthesia. When waking up, she was in extreme pain which was not normal.

As she was slowly coming off the anesthesia, the doctor that did the procedure held her hand and told her that what they found was what they had suspected. He told her that she had cancer that had started in her gall bladder and had spread to her liver.

Thursday morning, a wonderful lady came in to explain that everyone that will be on her team (Oncologist, GI doctor, Chemo Techs, etc.) reports to her so everyone is on the same page. She told Cathy that she was sorry to tell her it was stage 4 cancer, and they could not do surgery due to how much it had spread already.

The rest of the week was focused on helping with the pain and to get the pain under control enough so she could go home and rest there until her first oncology appt. It took until Sunday, Jan 7th to finally get to the point that everyone felt comfortable with her being able to leave safely with Zach and Candi as her caretakers.

On Sunday, we found out about ozone generator machines, which make the home sterile. We also found out that it was going to be a very long process to get this done. Many issues came up that we did not anticipate. Zach ended up having to board his animals because no humans or animals can be in the house during the ozone process. Also due to this, Cathy and Candi are currently being housed at a hotel Sunday-Thursday until the house is ready. After the Oncology appointment on Thursday, they will be able to head back home (to Zach's house).

Cathy lives with her youngest son, Zach, in New Haven, IN. Candi (the oldest of the 4 siblings) will be staying with them to help out. Justin is close by, in the Goshen/Wakarusa area. Matt, her oldest son, is in Arizona and will be flying back with his family to visit soon.

As Cathy is just one week into this diagnosis, many expenses have already come up and we would like to do whatever we can to help with some of the financial burden so that Cathy and her family can focus first and foremost on her health. Thank you for reading - and for sending all of your prayers/positive vibes & love this way.

With love, Cathy's kids
