After a long medical journey, our mom, Cathi, has been diagnosed with Stage IV Ovarian Cancer . She is the heart of our family, a loyal friend, and a loving grandmother. She’s given so much of herself to others, and now she needs our help.
About Cathi
Cathi has spent her life fighting battles most people cannot imagine. She comes from a home that failed to give her the safety, security, and love every child deserves yet managed to grow into a person with great compassion, empathy, and strength.
Despite not having a support system as a newly minted adult, she started at the bottom and climbed the corporate ladder through her own gumption. However, during a family emergency, she was forced to give up her stable career with benefits and a retirement plan in order to make sure her children were properly cared for. Now Cathi works 2 jobs, seven days a week, often taking extra shifts to help support herself and her family.
Cathi has fought her way through PTSD, endometriosis, and auto immune disease without proper pain management so that she could maintain one of her jobs with the school system. Despite limited time and resources, Cathi has always tried to build a better family by bolstering her community- helping neighbors, fighting injustice, and never failing to place others’ needs before her own wants.
Cancer
To treat her endometriosis, Cathi underwent a radical hysterectomy and thought her reproductive troubles would be over. When she began having pain, the last thought on anyone’s mind was ovarian cancer- she didn't have ovaries. To all of our great horror, even leaving a couple of ovarian cells behind is enough for aggressive Ovarian cancer to take over, and by the time it was discovered, the cancer had metastasized to her liver and lungs, and Cathi is terminal.
Her Wish
Three years ago, Cathi became a grandmother and was blessed again a little over a year ago. She is the grandmother we all wish we were lucky enough to have. The most precious thing we can give her is time. Time to fight. Time to delay the spread. Time to watch her grandbabies grow old enough to remember her. Time is her only wish.
We Need Your Help
Despite her diagnosis, Cathi cannot stop working. She relies on her jobs for income and health insurance, but her treatment is already pushing her underwater and it just keeps getting deeper. We need help to keep our mom, our grandma, around longer. Life should not be measured in dollars, and yet, that is what we are facing. We are doing everything we can to give her the gift of time, but it isn’t enough.
How You Can Help
Donate: Every contribution helps reduce her financial burden and gives her more time with her family. More time with the people who love her and who she loves the most.
Share: So many of us are stuck in the same broken system. If you cannot give financially, please share Cathi’s story so that it might reach others who can, and so others may learn from her story.
Thank You
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for taking the time to read about our mom. Every minute is a gift, and with your help, she can spend more of those minutes with the people who need her the most.
With gratitude,
Cathi’s Family
