Catherine Needs Our Help

Hi, my name is Alexis and I’m helping raise funds for my little sister Catherine who was in a life altering motorcycle accident.
On the evening of March 21st my little sister, Catherine, was involved in a horrible motorcycle accident. She was riding as a passenger enjoying a ride home from dinner and the book store with her high school friend. A car failed to look before
pulling out in front of them. Unfortunately, there was not enough time to react and the motorcycle T-Boned the vehicle head on going 45 mph. The impact and force was so much that it resulted in the back end of the motorcycle to crash into the side of the vehicle as well. Catherine was ejected 18 ft from the motorcycle onto the side of the highway. Thankfully, there were a few people in the area that ran over to immediately help. The driver of the vehicle stated he didn’t see the motorcycle, he abruptly turned onto a side street just to immediately turn back on to highway 17 because he missed his turn. I received a phone call at 10:33 pm from her phone. Someone who had ran to help clicked the last person she called. Within the 45 seconds on the phone I heard her voice call out my name and I immediately knew something was wrong. She was rushed to the #1 trauma hospital in the area.

She has had many surgeries as of this day and more coming. She was hospitalized in the ICU for just shy of two weeks due to her condition both internally and externally. In total, she was hospitalized for a little over three weeks after being moved to 24 hospital care after leaving the ICU. Just a few days ago we got word that she was being released to 24 hour home care and my entire family had to be prepared to take care of her while also having countless home nurses, physical/occupational therapists, and many others visit throughout the week. The family was taught how to move Catherine since she is still bedridden and requires 24 hour care. Without going into detail regarding her specific medical state and conditions, I have decided to turn to this platform to reach out for help. She has insurance but unfortunately it barely will cover any of her procedures and care for the next upcoming year and beyond. She just turned 22 years old as of March 31st, and as she becomes more coherent the stress of financials and obtaining an attorney is becoming more real for her. Within the next few weeks, she will hopefully become strong enough to check into a spinal cord Physical Therapy rehabilitation center…since that’s one of the requirements for that facility. Over the next year she will have more surgeries and work with a multitude of different people to regain strength, movement, and sensation from her waist down. She will unfortunately be in a wheelchair and neck brace for the next couple months and have a specialized bed to help her sit up. Over the next year she will be out of work and completely focused on rehabilitation from learning to walk again and so much more. Fortunately my sisters, parents, and grandparents live within the city and will be rotating 24/7 care between our work and sleep schedules. This helps out immensely but will be hard on all of us. This fund is being created to help support her medical, attorney and monthly finances. Thank you for taking the time to read over the posting. We are trying our absolute best to make sure Catherine receives the best care possible, but the current medical bills and beyond have already become overwhelming just due to how long the processes take with insurance and more. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated by Catherine and the entire family. Her medical bills will easily exceed $500,000 over the next 18 months, but we are hoping to raise $100,000 or more to help with immediate bills already coming in.
