Catastrophe in Cozumel for Jim and Jennifer

Donation protected
Our dear friends Jim and Jennifer O’Hair were finally getting a chance to get away for the first time in over five years; just the two of them. They saved up, took off work and flew to paradise in Tulum, Mexico. Now they need our help!

Everything was wonderful until halfway through the week they decided to sightsee around Cozumel on a scooter. One minute they were riding around the island the next they were on the ground looking up at the sky with no memory of the crash. Some locals saw what happened, helped them out and called for an ambulance to take them to the hospital.

They were admitted to the hospital where they found out Jen has four broken ribs and a severely cut arm. The physician spent over an hour or so stitching her up. Jim has seven broken ribs, a punctured lung and a broken scapula. He’s on oxygen because it’s difficult to breathe and he can’t even sit up.

They’ve been in the hospital for a week now and were planning a delayed return home on Sunday 5/2 but Jim still can’t sit up and he cannot be released for two more weeks to be able fly home.

On top of that, the hospital doesn’t take their medical insurance and they’ve found out they’re responsible for the cost of the scooter/moped. They don’t know the scope of other costs and additional fees for airline cancellations and rebooking, ambulance transport to the hospital and the airport, additional housing for Jen, food and medical supplies. They have to get their luggage from their hotel in Tulum, return their rental car, all kinds of impossible logistics to be dealt with. They’re also having to take unplanned additional time off work while Jim’s in the hospital and when they return home to recover. Time neither can afford to take off.

They think the scooter slid out on a gasoline or oil slick on the road; Jen and Jim are so thankful they were wearing helmets, that they’re alive and should fully recover. They’re very grateful for family and friends and the prayers of everyone.

We’re hoping to raise money to off-set the costs of this catastrophe in Cozumel that has left them in dire financial straits, and to help with the expense of the time-off they’ll need when finally home to both fully recover.

At this point we do not know the amount of fundraising required to cover everything but are making and educated guess of $16,000 knowing it could be more. Please, please consider donating to help our dear friends, imagine that this could happen to any of us. And knowing Jim and Jen, as the the kind of people who bend over backwards to help out anyone in a situation of need just as they’ve been doing throughout their whole lives. It’s our turn to give back and help them in their time of need. Thank you for any amount you can donate. It is truly appreciated and will be a huge blessing to them.
