Hi, my name is Neil
I am fundraising for myself and hopefully for the better scientific understanding of root vision issues.
I was born with Amblyopia , which is essentially my brain turned off one eye. I have zero depth perception. and this has had a rather distinct impact on my life.
I am currently 61 years old, and I am currently developing cataracts in both eyes. My provincial health covers me for basic lenses , but with that my eyesight would be such that I would have to wear glasses of different strengths for different roles, IE Near vision readers, Driving glass for distance, and such...at very least I would need to wear trifocals. I have chosen to upgrade to a better lens that would allow me to not wear glasses in most situations. They are by no means top tier lenses.
I see, a psychologist that specializes in brain plasticity , TMS and other techniques. We have talked at length about how not having good vision on one side has impacted my life. She, has suggested that it might be possible to do some "Experimental" work to potentially turn the eye back on. Sounds far fetched? Perhaps, but my research shows that rTMS has been used to create a positive outcome. (McGill-2021) .
My thinking is that if I was to give both eyes the best possible outcome in terms of new (cataract free) lenses , and combine it with rTMS treatment from my psychologist, the worst that can happen is that I have relatively good eyesight, and best gain some level of 3d vision and awareness from that side of my head.
Sadly, this is all off the books as far as my medical coverage is concerned.
Any moneys generated would go first to obtaining the best lenses, and any additional towards ongoing treatment using rTMS or whatever the psychologist suggests.
As of July 1 2024 the upgraded lenses have been fully funded.
At this point I am only raising money towards the Vision Therapy and associated devices. Still aways to go to be fully funded but progress is being made.
Any amount would be gratefully accepted.
Thank you
