Cataract surgery round 2. Help a batty see!
Hello! My name is Heather or Blackstar in the Furry community. My eyes have been a pretty bad bane of my existence throughout my life. From overall bad vision, to two retinal detachments when I was in high school. Recently, it was discovered that I had developed pretty bad cataracts in my eyes due to after effects of these surgeries. I’m 35 years old with cataracts!
2 weeks ago, I had the first cataract removed in my right eye. Everything has been healing great. That surgery was covered by my insurance because it was the standard procedure and standard mono focal lens.
Today (7/14), I got my left eye measured for surgery number 2 on the 28th, and the measurements show that I need a toric lens implant to give me the best vision. A toric lens is used to help fix astigmatism issues in the eye, and it’s severe in the left eye. There are two small problems with that. The toric lens is NOT covered by insurance. The procedure is different as well. Instead of the doctor making the incisions by hand, they are done with a highly accurate laser in order for the lens to be positioned correctly. Positional error can cause a lot more issues, so that’s why it’s done this way. The laser procedure is also not covered by insurance.
I have started this Go Fund Me to raise money to pay for this surgery. The total cost is going to be 1950.00, which is 950 for the laser procedure, and 1000 for the toric lens.
Thank you so much for looking!
