Cataract Surgery & Laser Scar Tissue Removal

I've been slowly losing my vision for the last six months due to cataracts. My right eye is worse than my left -- I can no longer read anything but large-print text with it. My left eye is compensating for now, but it is starting to fail as well as my cataracts grow.

While I have state medicaid, it will not cover Astigmatism lenses at all, or the kind of lenses that give me the best chance of seeing sharply again. If I want to correct astigmatism and have a high chance at clear vision, my outlay is $3.4k for each eye, plus costs for eye drops / medication and laser surgery afterwards to remove scar tissue.

Those of you who know me know I don't like to ask for money. I hate it. But... this is my sight, and it's getting worse by the day. I'm barely able to read back over what I'm typing on my phone, and this is 14-point font. It's bad.

I'm sorry. I wish I didn't need to ask. But this is where I'm at, so this is me putting my hand out and asking for help.


Full Disclosure 1: There's a cheaper option that clocks in at $2.8k. It has much less of a chance of giving me sharp focus vision where I need it. But it exists and it would be remiss of me not to mention it.

Full Disclosure 2: I have about $5k saved up... that was supposed to be for cool things like food and rent while I went to coding school for a year starting in March. While I /can/ use that for my eyes, it would completely ruin my ability to live, eat, and pay bills while going to school next year, which has been planned and carefully budgeted for months.


Obviously I'd prefer the highest chance possible of sharp eyesight at close distance. But that is really just up to what I can afford. I don't expect to get the full amount, but anything that offsets this cost helps.
