Dearest family, friends, and loved ones of Kevin,

I write this with a heavy heart, but it is with deep urgency that I share his story. My nephew, Kevin (aka “KCat”) Lingat Catacutan, is battling for his life right now. He’s been in a coma for the past three weeks due to medical complications caused by his long-term fight with Coccidioidomycosis or Valley Fever, an infection that has ridden him for the past ten years.

Kevin has one of the rarest and severe cases of Coccidioidomycosis caused by Coccidioides fungus, which has taken his ability to walk and undergo multiple brain surgeries over the years. He is part of the 1% of infected persons with a rare case that spread to his central nervous system (brain and spinal cord) and later caused him to develop hydrocephalus in 2018. He has been an ongoing patient of UC Davis’s medical team, receiving clinical trial medication for his condition.

On September 10, 2021, Kevin was admitted to Valley Medical hospital’s ER because his family found him unresponsive. Then on September 12, Kevin was put in a medically induced coma because of signs of a mild stroke. He underwent another emergency medical procedure because of complications found with the shunt in his brain used to drain out fluids caused by hydrocephalus. After the surgery, he was supposed to wake up on his own but did not. Further complications arose along with respiratory issues; thus, Kevin had to be intubated.

On September 19, 2021, Kevin was transferred to UC Davis, where he remains in a coma and under life-support. September 22-23, the doctors found he suffered several mild strokes and rising Cocci infection. In the next few days, his ventilator will have to be removed. We are unsure how much time we have left with Kevin but we remain hopeful and praying for a miracle that he wakes up.

My name is Marian Corpus, Kevin’s auntie, and I am reaching out to ask for your utmost support and contribution to help his family cover any medical, housing, and financial expenses. Kevin and his family are going through a lot of hardship right now, but will never be the kind of people to ask. His mother, Tess, who was recently diagnosed with terminal pancreatic cancer is bedridden and requires 24/7 care. Kevin’s younger brother, Kurt, and father, Egdon, are their primary caretakers so they lack a stable source of income.

To all of Kevin’s friends and family or to anyone who receives this message, please share Kevin’s story and keep him in your prayers. Anything helps. Thank you in advance for your support. *Note: All proceeds will go directly to the Catacutan family.

A special thanks to Jenny Chang, Kevin’s girlfriend, who has been by his side throughout this time. Also, to Kevin's best friend's Adrian and Jacob.

With Gratitude,

Marian Corpus and the Catacutan family

Egdon (Kevin's dad)
Tess (Kevin's mom)
Kristee (Kevin's older sister)
Kurt (Kevin's younger brother)

Message From Friend:

Kevin is one of the most caring people I know. He is a man of many skills and uses them to help those around him. From troubleshooting cars, offering computer and IT assistance, helping loved ones find jobs, and even offering a place to sleep. He is a wonderful soul that now requires our help. Let us take this time to show our appreciation and compassion for our beloved Kevin and his family during this time of need.
