We are Cat Rescue Zim , a non-profit voluntary organisation run by a small group of cat lovers. We’re on a quest to improve the welfare of cats all over Zimbabwe! It might look like we're asking for a huge amount but we are covering the two biggest cities in the country: Harare and Bulawayo. Yup, that's a staggering amount of kittens and cats!
Our Mission Statement:
We want to give cats the best possible life by reducing future populations, eliminating reproduction stress and supporting the health of sterilised colonies through feeding programs. Where appropriate, we uplift weaned kittens and home them with responsible owners. We avoid putting healthy cats to sleep, instead, we home unwanted feral cats on farms as working cats.
Our Vision:
> To have fewer cats and kittens on the streets
> To educate communities about the benefits of having cats and their place in the ecosystem, along with basic cat care
> To inform businesses about basic care for feral cats on their premises
> To run sterilisation programs in impoverished communities to improve the health and wellbeing of cats
Life in Zimbabwe isn’t easy thanks to inflation and unemployment. People struggle to make ends meet and so animal welfare really doesn’t feature on the average person's radar.
But if not now then when? If not me then who, right?! That’s where we come in!
We currently run three programs: TNR program (Trap-Neuter-Return), Foster Kitten program and Ferals for Farmers program.
TNR is our flagship project with the aim of sterilising as many cats as possible to reduce the number of kittens born on the streets. Our Foster Kitten program is made possible thanks to our amazing network of foster mums who work tirelessly to give uplifted / unwanted kittens the best start in life and find the kittens their furrever homes. Finally, with the Ferals for Farmers project, we relocate unwanted feral cats to other places where they can be useful such as farms with rat problems. How cool is that?!
Every week we receive new litters of rescued and uplifted kittens. We’re doing all that we can to help them but our limited resources only stretch so far. Although we have negotiated discounts with our amazing vets, we need your help to pay the bills. Our vets carry out the spays and neuters, do vital health checks, provide vaccinations and give life-saving treatments to the cats and kittens in need.
We’re super proud of the work we’ve done up to now with such limited resources. To date we’ve:
> Rescued & rehomed 503 kittens
> Trapped-neutered-returned a whopping 1,300 cats!
But we need your help to keep this amazing operation going! Aside from vet bills your money will also help us build more TNR traps and buy vital supplies such as cat/kitten food, carriers and litter trays.
In Africa we say ‘If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.’
Be part of our amazing movement, know that you’re contributing to a worthy cause and the cats of Zimbabwe, both today and tomorrow, will appreciate you for it!
Any donation, no matter how small, will help ❤️
