In Loving Memory: 5/31/81-9/23/21

Catherine "Cat" Dawn Weightman, 40, died at home on Thursday, Sept. 23, 2021, surrounded by the loving women of her family.

In 2010, during her second pregnancy, Catherine was diagnosed with melanoma. Following treatment, she managed to maintain remission for a decade. In early 2021 the cancer returned, and she resumed intense treatment. But stage 4 metastasized cancer was overwhelming. Catherine chose to begin Hospice Care, and gently leave this life.

Catherine's greatest love was her two children, Alexandria Lillian Weightman Bell and Tyrus Lifr Rex Weightman Boyea. Also remembering Cat are her mother, Jane Cochran, siblings Margaret Foster (Curtis Foster), Lisa Weightman (Joshua Rood,) Jon Weightman (Lora Weightman), beloved cousins, and Tyrus' father, Paul Boyea. Preceding her are father Ivan Weightman and Alexandria's father, Robert Bell.
Born May 31, 1981, in Sacramento to Jane Cochran and Ivan Weightman, Cat's childhood began in Guinda, California, a small community in the Capay Valley. At age 8 her family moved to Soulsbyville, where Cat attended Soulsbyville Elementary. She was active in sports, band, Girl Scouts and 4-H. At Sonora High School she participated in swim team, basketball and volleyball. She loved being in the Golden Regiment Band, and Civil Air Patrol. Cat also studied in Finland through Sonora High's AFS program.

Funny, loving and energetic, Cat also had a strong sense of social and environmental justice. A massage therapist for more than 20 years, she studied holistic healing, along with birthing practices to assist nurse-midwives. In recent years she worked for the Sonora Farmers' Market. She loved needlework, such as knitting, crocheting, sewing and spinning yarn. Goats, chickens and gardening kept her busy, while she sang throughout the day. She was a devoted Oakland A's baseball fan, and also skated with Tuolumne County's "High Country Hellcats" Roller Derby team, nicknamed "CatSASStrophe," and for "High Country Gold Diggers" as "Meowch." Cat loved making art from anything. In 2007 she and friend, Jen Fletcher, founded "ReVamp Recyclery," repurposing materials into community art materials. Ms. Fletcher continues this work at Tuolumne County Arts.

Recently Catherine's family celebrated her life together with friends gathered on Zoom. Contributions to support the future educations of Lexe and Tyrus may be made through this fund.

Terzich and Wilson assisted with funeral arrangements.

The family offers a final note from Cat's journey: Please get routine check-ups for skin cancer, and always choose love.

It is with heavy hearts that our family mourns the passing of our  Catherine Dawn Weightman on September 23rd, 2021. She was surrounded by so much love in her life and especially in her final days. She had an amazing sense of humor, strength and will be deeply missed by so many. Thank you all for your support, prayers and love from the beginning of her cancer journey through today. She had wished me to express how touched she was by love from known and unknown friends.

Send your prayers to her 2 children.
Thank you, loved ones
