Cat hit by car in Oak Lawn, IL needs our help!
Hello my name is Mithil. On the evening of Sunday July 25th I saw a message posted on facebook about a cat that had been hit by a car on 103rd and Long in Oak Lawn. Someone was kind enough to move the cat off the road and onto the side, however that person abandoned the cat and left it die by itself. My initial reaction was to get to to the cat and at the very least give it company. Once I arrived at the scene I knew I had to get the cat to the 24/7 vet clinic because the alternative was to wait until 10am the next day for animal control to show up or have the cat euthanized. My parents growing up always taught me all life is valuable and if theres a will theres a way to survive.
Last night after taking the cat to the emergency Vet in orland park, I paid $2900 for an overnight stay. I was told the cat has major injuries to both his front paws. One paw is shattered while the other has a dislocated "elbow". The cat will likely need surgery or amputation. The Vet told me i'm looking at roughly $5000+ in surgical bills if I choose to proceed. We haven't gotten to the point of having a surgical consultation yet. However, this cat may need another night at the hospital. Each night is about $2900 (I am happy to show you the bill in case you think I am a scammer).
As of noon on Monday July 26th, the cat is in stable condition with labored breathing so he's being held in an oxygen camber. He has two major injuries to his front paws. Luckily the vet did not detect any brain damage or internal bleeding/damage (yet) sometimes that takes more than 24 hours to happen. Cat has not eaten or drank anything that the vet has given him. Last night liver enzymes were slightly elevated but the Vet told me they aren't bad. I did give the vet permission to not revive cat if the cat were to go into cardiac arrest during his stay at the hospital.
If you want to see this cat survive and maybe have a 2nd chance at life, please I never ask for any financial help, but I'm asked for it now so that this cat can be fostered at my home until we find him a better housing situation. Since I have another cat at home, i'm not sure how the interaction will be once/if I get to bring this cat home.
I appreciate everyones time in reading this and for all the well wishes and comments. It's truly sad that we live in a world where some people have no remorse hitting an animal and keep driving or to take a photo and walk away from a dying animal.
Whatever funds are not used, will be donated to help other animals in similar situations as this. Thank you all again.
