Cat Fundraiser 2: Ellie And The Angry Thyroid
Donation protected
Hello again. This is my cat Ellie. You might remember her debut fundraiser several years ago where she played a cat in need of surgery with a non-life threatening skin tag.
That was a smashing success, and she has been skin tagless ever since. She is reprising her famous role of 'sick cat' for 2023, but with a twist! This time it is life-threatening. But we will get into that.
Ellie is somewhere between 15-17 years old, and for the past ten years she has been my best friend. Every morning when I get out of bed I make a pillow fort for her to sleep in (she is snoring in it as I type this). Every day she is waiting in the window for me when I come home. And every night she is sleeping between my legs. This has been an unbroken streak that I would like to keep going.
Spiders and mice wouldn't dare step foot into my apartment. She is good at keeping the ghosts at bay, and I've never seen a vampire or werewolf in the area which I attribute entirely to her. She is sweet and demanding and suffers no fools. I love her very much.
Now the bad news: To go along with her bad kidneys (a future fund raiser to complete the trilogy) she has gone and got herself a bum thyroid. This coupled with her ailing kidneys is not great. The good news is it is treatable. There are two ways basically: 1) pills forever, twice a day. This is cheaper upfront, but combined with the constant battery of lab work needed it will quickly outpace the more expensive second option, 2) a one-time blast of radioactive iodine done at a specialized clinic. This will cure the vast majority of cats and it's the way we are going.
The funds for this appeal will 100% be used to cover the cost of this treatment. It breaks down like this:
Treatment At Clinic - $1600-$2000
Aftercare vet lab/visits - $800
Lunch/Gas for the person driving me and my cat two hours to the clinic and back (twice) - $100
I figure $2500 will cover most or all of this, but I also figure I won't get near that amount. Reach for the stars, as they say. In the unlikely event I receive more funds than needed, I'll donate the remainder to PAWS Cat City in Seattle. If I wait too long the latest batch of lab work will have to be redone ($600), so I really can't delay. But just like last time, she is going to get the medical attention she needs regardless of this appeal. I would just like to not have to pay this bill several times over for the next five years.
Ellie is probably the last cat I will ever have so I would like to keep her around as long as possible. Thank you for your time and consideration.
