KXAN News Story: Austin cat on the mend after 2 months trapped in vacant home

On January 24th during a big thunderstorm in Austin, Texas, Hans disappeared and never returned home. After weeks of searching high and low, Doug and Monet assumed the worst. Then on March 27th, he was miraculously found alive in a vacant home despite not having access to food for over two months. We are so grateful Hans has been found, and we need your help brining him home. Below my son, Doug, shares what happened.

He is the sweetest homebody and loves cuddles on the couch, so we were extremely worried when he didn't come home that day in January.

We searched for him for days, which turned into weeks. We put up flyers around the neighborhood, posted all over different social media outlets, and canvassed the neighborhood searching for a sign. After weeks, we assumed the worst and grieved his loss.

Over two months later on my birthday, March 27th, I got a text from a neighbor saying they spotted Animal Control pulling a cat out of a vacant home down our street. I ran out to talk to Animal Control and miraculously, it was him! He had been stuck, locked in a house alone, with no food for over 2 months, and somehow was still alive.

My wife and I rushed him to the emergency vet immediately to get him help. Hans was 18 lbs when we lost him, and was 7lbs the day we found him and in critical condition.

Currently, Hans is under the care of specialists at a vet hospital in Austin. He is receiving dedicated attention and following a carefully structured feeding and fluid regimen. He is also now blind, most likely due to malnourishment. His progress, though gradual, is consistent and promising.

We are immensely grateful for any support you can provide during this challenging time. Hans has shown incredible resilience during his two-month journey, and with your help, we can ensure he receives the necessary treatments to continue his recovery and eventually return home to us.
