Castlines is a short Irish film about loneliness, connection, and those small, unexpected beautiful moments in life. Set on a quiet pier on the west coast, the story follows Sean, a widowed fisherman in his seventies, whose solitary routine is interrupted by Aidan, a young man recently returned home and struggling to find his place in the world. What begins as an awkward encounter slowly becomes an unlikely bond between two people who, in their own ways, are adrift.
The title Castlines comes from the simple act of casting a fishing line out into the sea. In the film, this becomes a metaphor for the lines we cast into life; toward other people, toward hope, and toward the possibility of something new. The film is gentle, character-driven, and rooted in the landscape and rhythm of rural Ireland. It explores themes of grief, isolation, and masculinity.
We’re raising funds to help bring this story to screen with the care and authenticity it deserves. Your support will go directly toward production costs; locations, equipment, and travel, allowing us to make a film that reflects the heart and honesty of the script.
This short film also serves as a proof of concept for a feature-length film we envision. Castlines in its short form allows us to demonstrate the tone, visual style, characters, and emotional landscape of the larger story we hope to bring to life. By creating this film, we aim to build the foundation needed to bring the feature film to production.
If you are a fan of small Irish stories, human stories, or simply want to support emerging filmmakers, we’d be incredibly grateful for your help.
