Castlebar Swimming Club Swimathon for the Sunflower Children’s Hospice
360 km. One day. One incredible cause.
On Saturday, 16th May, the young swimmers of Castlebar Swimming Club will take on an extraordinary challenge:
they will collectively swim the full 360 km length of the River Shannon in a single day.
This Swimathon is a joint fundraiser supporting two important community pillars:
• the proposed Sunflower Children’s Hospice for the West of Ireland
• and the continued development of youth sport within Castlebar Swimming Club, a fully volunteer-run community club.
70% of all funds raised will go directly to the Sunflower Children’s Hospice, with 30% supporting the club as we grow participation, coaching, and opportunities for young swimmers. Our priority is to make a meaningful contribution to the hospice while also sustaining a positive, healthy environment for local youth.
Why We’re Swimming the Shannon
Families in the West currently face long journeys to access specialist children’s hospice care. The Sunflower Children’s Hospice aims to change that by bringing compassionate, child-centred support closer to home for families navigating the most difficult moments imaginable.
Our swimmers wanted to do something meaningful — something that would show families across the West that our community stands with them.
So they chose to swim the Shannon.
