Cassy's Cooking San Sebastian Send-Off

Hello community,

For the past two years, I have been dedicating myself to studying and working in the Culinary Arts. I am happily more than halfway through my degree at the Culinary Arts School in Tijuana and truly have found my passion. Food and community have always been an integral part of my life, as it has opened many doors for me. This fall, another door is opening to the celebrated restaurant, Arzak, in San Sebastian, the Basque Country, where generations of Basque chefs have been passionately cooking and sharing their teachings with the world.

This is a huge opportunity, and I plan to absorb all I can, while bringing the teachings from the fields of humanities, Chicano Studies, and community organizing that are my background. Last September, I had the opportunity to learn at Meroma, a recently Michelin-recognized restaurant in Roma Norte in Mexico City, and this truly enriched my experience as a cook and future chef. Being one of the most emblematic cities for gastronomy, the autonomous community of San Sebastian is a hub for culinary creativity, sophisticated technique, and a representation of the beauty of the Basque Culture. I am excited for this amazing opportunity to learn from generations of chefs and their dedication to the art.

I am reaching out for financial support to help me meet my goal of expenses I will have for the 3 months I will be at Arzak. The funds raised will go directly to my transportation costs, living costs, getting to know the city, and insurance as a cook from outside the country. My goal is 2,500 dollars, and I am thankful for all donations or any words of encouragement.

Durante los últimos dos años, me he estado dedicando a estudiar y trabajar en el arte culinario. Estoy felizmente más allá de la mitad de mi carrera en la Escuela de Artes Culinarias en Tijuana y verdaderamente he encontrado mi pasión. La comida y la comunidad siempre han sido una parte integral de mi vida, ya que me han abierto muchas puertas. Este otoño, otra puerta se abre hacia el reconocido restaurante Arzak, en San Sebastián, País Vasco, donde generaciones de chefs vascos han cocinado con pasión y compartido sus enseñanzas con el mundo.

Esta es una gran oportunidad, y planeo absorber todo lo que pueda, mientras llevo conmigo las enseñanzas de las humanidades, los Estudios Chicanos y la organización comunitaria que forman parte de mi formación. El pasado septiembre, tuve la oportunidad de aprender en Meroma, un restaurante recientemente reconocido por la Guía Michelin en Roma Norte, Ciudad de México, y esto enriqueció profundamente mi experiencia como cocinera y futura chef. Siendo una de las ciudades más emblemáticas para la gastronomía, la comunidad autónoma de San Sebastián es un centro de creatividad culinaria, técnica sofisticada y una representación de la belleza de la cultura vasca. Estoy emocionada por esta increíble oportunidad de aprender de generaciones de chefs y su dedicación al arte.

Estoy solicitando apoyo financiero para poder cubrir los gastos que tendré durante los 3 meses que estaré en Arzak. Los fondos recaudados irán directamente a cubrir mis costos de transporte, gastos de vida, conocer la ciudad y el seguro como cocinera extranjera. Mi meta es de 2,500 dólares, y estoy muy agradecida por cualquier donación o palabras de aliento.
