Cassins Fight for a Cure! & More Time with Her Dad
Donation protected
Hi Everyone!
I wanted to do everything in my power to keep it from getting to this point, but our girl needs us and so we are willing to finally ask for help.
Cassin is my dad’s beloved 6 year old greyhound mix. Cassin came into my dad’s life when he needed her most. Facing the loss of a recent pup and only daughter moving out, it was just him. Little did he know he wasn’t going to be lonely at all with his best girl with him. Cassin quickly became his sidekick spending every day with each other for the last 6 years. They have done everything, including a fun trip to see Santa together (cute pic attached)! They moved from Pennsylvania to Delaware together. My dad is now 76 years old and cassin helps keep him as sharp & active as possible (although some days they both enjoy being lazy). Last year my dad had open heart surgery, and there cassin was with her head on his lap helping him heal the entire time. They have been through so many milestones together in just 6 short years.
A few weeks ago Cassin was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma in her back leg. Of course we jumped into action. The cancer had not spread and she was accepted into a clinical trial at Johns Hopkins. THANK YOU Johns Hopkins for covering the cost of her immunotherapy treatment (she handled it great!).
Now, she needs to get her leg amputated and go through chemo to make any of this worth it. She has good odds if we can make this happen! Also, she is in pain and removing the leg will help her so much. Also, even cooler, this clinical trial will help further research on how osteosarcoma can be treated in humans, which this type of cancer impacts kids the most. So her leg will be sent back to Johns Hopkins to continue the research, so at the very least Cassin will be helping those around us that we love.
Here has been the hardest part. We do not have the funds to cover this all. We have no pet insurance & my father’s only income is social security & I am currently doing what I can to help cover some costs, but it’s way above what we can do. We do not want to give up on our girl yet. She’s just a 6 year old, but this could cost $15k all together.
Cassin is scheduled for amputation on 6/13 and will need chemo a few weeks after. From the bottom of our hearts, we are so thankful for anyone that can donate to help us fight this fight with Cassin.
Thank you Thank you Thank you to anyone that can help us. And as always SCREW CANCER!
Additionally, if we have any leftover donations, we will be donating this back to John’s Hopkins so that Dr. Kraitchman can continue her amazing research on Osteosarcoma.
