Cassie Wherley's Family

Donation protected
This GoFundMe was generated to assist Cassie's husband, son, and family with any costs and to support in this tragic time.

I knew Cassie from Arizona Project Challenge, in 2008. She was a kind hearted person and someone who was truly adored by the other cadets and staff members. She was always brought a smile to someone's face with her bubbly and happy-go-lucky, goofy attitude.

Cassandra Marie Wherley, 25, of Ethan, passed away Sunday, July 17, 2016 as a result a motor vehicle accident near Ethan, SD. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 pm Friday, July 22, 2016 at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, in Brookings. Visitation will be from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm Thursday at Rude’s Funeral Home, in Brookings, with a Liturgical Wake Service and Rosary beginning at 6:30 pm.

Cassandra was born on October 24, 1990, in Brookings, South Dakota, to Kevin and Chalonne (Foerster) Lucas. She grew up in Brookings and attended Central Elementary and Brookings Middle School. She attended high school in Brookings and Surprise, AZ. She graduated from Arizona Project Challenge in Queen Creek, AZ in 2008.

After high school, Cassie worked as a server in various restaurants, where she met many good friends. While attending a concert, she met her future husband, Darin Wherley. They were united in marriage on September 28, 2013, in Brookings. During their marriage, they lived in Brookings, Rapid City and most recently Ethan, SD, as a result of Darin’s employment. On July 2, 2014, while living in Rapid City, Cassie and Darin welcomed a son, Carter Lucas, to their family. Since his birth, Cassie was able to stay at home and be a full time mom to Carter.

Cassie could absolutely light up a room with her gorgeous smile and infectious laugh. She was a kind, energetic soul that will be dearly missed by her family and friends. She enjoyed Christmas, entertaining, cooking, fishing, camping, shopping, flowers, decorating and cleaning. Her friends knew just how much she loved dressing up and doing her nails, hair and makeup. More than anything in this world, though, Cassie enjoyed spending time with her family and she absolutely LOVED being a mom. She loved Carter and enjoyed every minute she got to spend with him.

Cassie is survived by her husband, Darin, and son, Carter (2), of Ethan, SD; her father, Kevin (Missy) Lucas of Brookings, SD; her mother, Chalonne (Kyle) Evans of Surprise, AZ; her brother, Christopher Lucas of Rapid City and her sister Kelsie Lucas of Surprise, AZ; her half and step-siblings, Logan Evans of Mitchell, SD, Cole Evans of Surprise, AZ, JD Phillips of Pocatello, ID and Mia Phillips of Brookings; her grandparents, Steve (Julie) Foerster of Brookings and Colleen (Bruce Reuter) Foerster of Sun City West, Arizona.
