Cassie's Care & Comfort Fund

My name is Tim Mrva. My daughter, Cassie, shown in the photos above, was diagnosed in November 2014 with Stage IV Metastatic Uterine Adenocarcinoma. Cassie has suffered with mental illness most of her adult life and, as such, has not always been aware of her physical health and needs. Cindy (her mom) and I believe that a combination of factors have caused a greatly delayed diagnosis which resulted in her illness progressing to the advanced stage it is now at.
The name of this fund has recently been changed, because Cassie's prognosis has changed. I have also changed this description because of it.
Cassie became very ill at the beginning of October and was hospitalized for extreme abdominal pain at which time Cancer was suspected but not confirmed. Through a series of events we can only attribute to the Grace of God, her surgery was delayed until more thorough tests resulted in a referral to a wonderful Gynecological Oncologist. Cassie’s first surgery resulted in several massive tumors being removed from her body with substantial lymph node involvement – some of which was removed and others of which had to be left behind for Chemotherapy and Radiation treatments. We also found out that she has a metastasized tumor in her lung.
Because of Cassie’s mental health status, she has demonstrated great difficulty managing her health care. The group home in which she had most recently lived could not provide the level of care she needs, so she now lives with us in our apartment.
Cassie has short term and long term needs as we care for every aspect of her life, including assisting with her personal care, medication, meals and getting her to and from her treatments and appointments.
Initially we anticipated, based on previous history with Cassie's insurance, that Cassie's coverage would take care of many, but not all, of her medical bills. That has mostly borne itself out, as residual expenses not covered by the insurance have been trickling in.
We had initially hoped for an eventual cure, based on Cassie's original prognosis right after her surgery. However, the failure of Chemotherapy and Radiation to rid her of the remainder of her cancer leaves us with the reality that - apart from a miracle from God - she will be going to meet Jesus sooner rather than later.
Cassie’s initial reaction to the news of her diagnosis was “What is God trying to teach us through this?” and her outlook has been positive and uplifting as she praises Jesus, her Lord and Savior, for - and through - this trial. She has been an encouragement to everyone who comes in contact with her, especially us. Her faith has soared, and we have all drawn closer together as we draw closer to God.
Our focus is still on helping manage all aspects of Cassie's care and providing a comfortable and suitable living environment for her, providing transportation to and from all her appointments, and for any other personal and practical needs she has, to help her live as comfortably as possible during her remaining days here on Earth. One of our more joyful jobs is to help Cassie fulfill her "Bucket List". Thanks the Lord orchestrating some unusual and unexpected connections, our friends and relatives have assisted in getting some of her items crossed off that list. We look forward to sharing the completion of her bucket list with you as Cassie checks the remaining items off.
Our family thanks you for any and all financial assistance and support you may be able to provide. Please "like" this (and especially share it with as many people as you can). God Bless you all!
