Cassidy's Medical Transportation
Donation protected
Our family is trying to raise funds to repair our handicap accessible vehicle to get it running again. Our daughter, Cassidy, 13 years old, is medically fragile. She was born with a rare disease called Osteopathia Striata with Cranial Sclerosis, O.S.C.S. The signs of this rare disease can include skeletal abnormalities, hardening of the craniofacial bones, unusually large head size and facial features, developmental delays, hearing loss, heart defects and paralysis of the muscles surrounding the eyes. Osteopathia striata with cranial sclerosis is such a rare disease that fewer than 100 cases have been reported.
We have a handicapped accessible vehicle but it has been broken down for many months. We have another vehicle that we can use to get the rest of the family around, but it is not wheelchair accessible. This makes life very difficult for us. Cassidy is 13 years old, is over 4 feet tall and weighs over 80 pounds now. She has very little muscle control which makes transferring her from her wheelchair into a seat in the car very difficult. Because she is getting so big, we are no longer able to lift her in and out of the wheelchair to put her in the car. The problem with that is she has frequent doctor visits, including chiropractic care, physical therapy and occupational therapy. In total her team of caregivers includes over 20 specialists. Cassidy also requires a myriad of equipment along with her to care for her basic needs. She requires oxygen and a suction machine along with a very heavy wheelchair to be mobile.
Recently, while trying to transfer Cassidy out of her wheelchair, we took a tumble. She suffered a laceration to her head, which thankfully didn’t need any stitches. We are not getting any younger and it is becoming more and more difficult to transfer Cassidy from her wheelchair to the car. We already have the accessible vehicle; we just need to raise enough funds to have it repaired. If you are able to help in any way at all, we would be eternally grateful.
