Our friends, Shawn and Janine, are your typical family juggling the demands of work and life with two small children, Connor, age 5, and Cassidy, age 3.
On January 2, 2019, their lives changed. Their daughter Cassidy woke up in the middle of the night with a hard, swollen lump on her left forearm. Doctors initially believed that she had fractured her arm, and they placed her in a cast for 10 days. On January 14, 2019, Janine took Cassidy to a follow up appointment to have her cast removed. When the doctor removed Cassidy’s cast, he realized that something was very wrong, as her arm had gotten bigger and she was in a lot of pain. Cassidy was rushed to the emergency room for tests. Cassidy spent 3 weeks in the hospital.
After having a biopsy, as well as a plethora of other tests, Cassidy was diagnosed with stage 4 alveolar rhabdomyosarcoma, which is a rare form of cancer. Cassidy’s doctors have placed her on an aggressive treatment plan, which entails 2 years of chemo, radiation, and maybe even surgery.
Cassidy is currently going through her fourth cycle of chemo and is handling it like a champion. She is still a happy, joyful, vibrant little girl who is the life of the party wherever she goes.
Please help Shawn and Janine as they take care of Cassidy during this extremely difficult time. Any amount that you can contribute will be greatly appreciated and go directly to them.
