Cassidy Fights Guillian-Barre Syndrome

Donation protected
Earlier this month Cassidy had a common cold that triggered the unthinkable. She joked to us that she threw out her back from coughing too hard... neither of us questioned anything. However, once symptoms started to progress and she began losing more sensation, she knew immediately that she had to get to the ER where she was quickly diagnosed with Guillian-Barre Syndrome .

GBS is a rare neurological disorder in which the body's immune system attacks the coating of the nerve cell. The doctors explained to her, before and progression it was going to get worse. It very well got more and more severe. It led to paralysis and Cassidy was put on a ventilator to help her breathe because she was no longer able to breathe on her own.

For those of you who understand GBS, you know how horrific it can be for your loved one. Imagine being fully conscious while experiencing paralysis and having to undergo a tracheostomy surgery knowing you now can not breathe on your own. The simple things that we take for granted are taken away... the ability to eat, talk, walk, read (which she loves to do), care for yourself, etc. While we are very hopeful Cassidy will make a full/significant recovery (because she is a strong strong lady), we are also aware that this is not an overnight healing process.

At this time, Cassidy has been taken off the ventilator, so there is progress already! However, recovery has been seen anywhere from 6M- 2 years and today Cassidy received the news that her insurance will over cover 2 months of inpatient rehabilitation. This is not enough to cover the duration of inpatient rehab that she needs. Additionally, they will not be covering the outpatient rehab that will be needed.

At this time her family and friends are reaching out to ask for donations to help fund Cassidy's road to recovery. Any donation and shares to this GoFundMe page are deeply appreciated (and prayers)! Funds will be needed as early as 2 months once insurance stops paying.

Let's help Cassidy fund her rehabilitation treatment so that she can get back to eating her cheese, hiking, biking, camping... doing all the things she loves!

FYI- As of today, the hospital has asked to stop visitation for a few weeks due to coronavirus :(  If you have any messages you'd like us to send over, write them here and it will be read to her <3 I will be updating this page with progress updates as they come.

We love you Cass <3
