Cassandra's CBSL Fundraiser for The Pony Express

My name is Cassandra Hilberman and I am a senior at Cardinal Newman High School. I have worked at The Pony Express since I was 12 years old and it's a nonprofit I am truly passionate about and believe in. Newman Students are required to create a Community Based Service Learning project (CBSL) and I undoubtedly choose to put my time and efforts into The Pony Express.  My goal is to create a What We Do For Each Other Wall, a memorial to all the ponies and kids who have come, and will come to The Pony Express looking for a second chance, new home, healing, and learning experiences. It is also something to represent the impact The Pony Express has made in the community and everyone who has been influenced by their work, but also the connection between horse and human, and how we grow and heal together. This is year is the 40th anniversary and to represent the past and future we want this wall to be a staple.  The fires that burned down our ranch this last year, resulted in the closure of the Equine Assisted Skills for Youth program due to lack of funding. I want to leave high school and The Pony Express knowing this program is available to anyone who is in need of it, horses or kids. The wall will be a memento but also help show the community that this program makes a difference and something that is beneficial to the community, but is in great need of funding.
