Dear friends, family & the Go Fund Me community,

We are reaching out in hopes that you will support our amazing friend Cassandra Sinopoli.

Cassandra’s Story

In December of 2018, Cassandra went to the hospital to have a persistent cough examined, and nothing was discovered. This cough soon worsened into chest tightness, and pain that ran down her neck and back—she found herself always exhausted despite the fact that she was sleeping well. In late January, she went to a walk-in clinic as the pain had significantly progressed and was once again sent home with no answers. Later that evening she made the decision to call an ambulance, her chest pain was unbearable at this point and her heart rate was over 140 with no activity. It was during her admittance to the hospital that Cassandra learned she had Primary mediastinal large B-cell lymphoma (PMBCL)—she went through five rounds of chemotherapy followed by 25 treatments of radiation therapy.

Current Diagnosis & Treatment

In November, Cassandra was told that the cancer has spread to her kidneys and pancreas. As it stands, the outlook for this cancer is not good and she is undergoing chemotherapy in hopes that it will stop spreading, while she waits to start a new treatment. Without this treatment, Cassandra’s prognosis is 3 to 6 months to live.

This treatment is called CAR-T Cell Therapy and has shown impressive results for those who have undergone it. To summarize, this therapy involves taking the T-Cells from the patient and re-engineering them to find and kill the cancer cells. While this treatment is great news, it also means Cass will have to leave Canada and travel to the Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa Florida, where she is expected to stay for at least as month (depending treatment outcomes) and thus stop working entirely for this time. As resilient and strong-willed as she is, there is no doubt that this process will take a physical and mental toll on her. We want to make sure that Cassandra does not have to stress over her day to day expenses and any associated travel costs while she is in treatment and recovery.

A truly amazing fact about Cassandra is that throughout her long, and difficult journey with cancer she has been tirelessly committed to her role on the client services team at the Veterinary Emergency Clinic. She is always putting others first, and now it’s her turn.  It is so important to all of us who know Cassandra that her and her family feel supported during this difficult time, we are asking for your assistance to help ease the burden that comes with having cancer so that she can focus solely on her journey to recovery. We hope that you will consider making a donation, every cent makes a difference in helping Cassandra fight her battle with cancer.

After Cassandra finishes her treatment, she would like to pledge the remaining funds to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada's Light the Night Walk on October 22nd, 2020.

Thank you!
