I am Tamala Barksdale, lifelong friend of Cassandra and godmother to Gregory. I opened this Go Fund Me because when they've learned of the fire, every single person has said, "I'd like to help, is there a Go Fund Me?" Now there is.

In the early hours of January 18, Cassandra and Gregory were awakened by flames on their balcony. In no more than a minute, the place was engulfed in fire and smoke. They fled for their lives with only the (night) clothes on their backs. Everything they owned, furniture, clothes, keys, cell phone, photos, Scout stuff, dishes, etc., was lost to the fire, water and smoke.

Fortunately, no one was injured in the fire which displaced 16 people and affected 8 units in the complex. However, the emotional toll is immense. While they have insurance, it won't cover the cost of rebuilding their lives. The remaining gap means the road ahead will be long and hard.

She didn't ask and she wouldn't but we are raising funds to help Cassandra and Gregory bridge the gap between the insurance payout and the reality of rebuilding. These funds will go toward urgent needs like housing, clothing, food, and essential items for both Cassandra and Gregory. Every dollar donated will help them navigate this challenging time and start to rebuild their future from zero.
