Cass Medical Expense Fund
If you know him- you know Cass describes himself as a "rebel rouser". If you know him, you know Cass works hard to build community in a practical egalitarian manner. Cass is well known for his organizing skills, but also for his kindness. Now, its our turn to step up for Cass. 
In May 2020, Cass had a heart attack and was life-flighted to a hospital in CDA. The medical team found a mysterious blood clot in Cass's heart, and were able to save his life. The medical team put a stent into Cass's heart to aid his healing. Cass is now recovering and focusing on his health so he can continue to do what loves: hiking, laughing and fighting for social justice, anti-war movements, and the environment. Recovery for Cass will be medical treatment for one year. He needs to fill monthly prescriptions for 5 medications: blood thinners to stop blood clotting around the stent in his heart. And after he ends treatment for his heart next year, he will need another medical procure- hernia surgery.
In addition to medical conditions, the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted future income opportunities. There are medical bills and other costs that Cass and his family face. As his friends, we've put together this fundraiser to help keep up with bills while he heals. Funds are needed immediately to help cover the monthly costs of prescription, and other bills (for example, he hasn't received the bill for the life flight yet, which can be up to $25,000).
Money donated will go to help cover the monthly cost of prescriptions (about $150/month with sufficient Medicaid coverage), medical bills from the life flight and hospital, and other expenses. If you are unable to contribute funds, Cass asks that you help by taking over some of the volunteer and civic work.
In addition to his activism, Cass serves on the board of three NGOs and participates in community events about social justice and the environment. He said, "one of the biggest things that will ease my stress is seeing more people involved, more people civically engaged". While Cass is healing, we can help by participating in community conversations and protecting the earth.
