Cashew has now had his 4th evaluation with our veterinarian eye doctor, and this time it was not good news. It seems his right eye retina is beginning to detach. If left untreated he will lose his sight in that eye.
He has come so far. The day he had his cataract surgery, he looked up at me that night and could see me for the first time. To sitting in the car as we are going to the park, he’s just looking around at all there is to see, like he has never seen such wonders before. To the day we took his cone off, 28 days in a cone, that was a good day.
Because of all this, this little man is becoming the happiest little boy ever. His personality is blossoming, and he has become alive. Before he regained his sight, he was withdrawn, in a dark silent world, unaware of anyone around him. Remember he was fully deaf and fully blind when the SD Humane Society found him on a busy road in El Cajon. Now he is a happy, funny, beautiful little dog, looking around at the big world, our little man.
Now we must do a second round of surgery. Retina reattachment is a specialty, and only one veterinarian doctor does this on the west coast. And it just so happens that this vet is in Pasadena, and we just so happen to be in the area next week, we will be 30 minutes away, ironic isn't it.
So we have an evaluation appointment on Sept 4 and if he is a candidate, surgery that same day. Yes, another cone and more eye drops and not to mention how much more this is costing.
BUT there is no way we are going to let this little man go back into that dark silent world.
I don’t know how to express how grateful we are for the help we have received, thank you all so much it means more than we can express. Thank you.
