Casey started noticing bruises all over his body the beginning of December 2014. Assumed that it was from bumping into things at work or during workouts at the gym. On the night of January 12, 2015, after a long night at work where he could hardly move due to every bone in his body aching, we went directly to the ER. Blood test showed that his platlet counts were down to 12,000!! (a normal platelet count is between 150,000 - 450,000). He was admitted that night. More tests were done and on the third day the results showed that he has Acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), also called acute lymphocytic leukemia or acute lymphoid leukemia, is a fast-growing cancer of a type of white blood cells called lymphocytes. Normal lymphocytes help your body fight infections. In ALL, the lymphocytes are cancerous and don't fight infections very well. These cancerous cells (or leukemic blasts) grow quickly and crowd out the bone marrow, preventing it from making the normal red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets that your body needs. We flew to Straub on Oahu within two days to start Chemotherapy. Date was January 19, 2015. It is now March 16, 2015 and he just got done with the 3rd cycle of chemo! He has 5 more cycles to go! But in between this cycle and the 4th cycle, we fly to Seattle for a one day consult for a bone marrow transplant. We leave next week. We were told that once a match is found he will be hospitalized for approx. one month in Seattle and will need to stay for outpatient care in Seattle for three to six months! We are hoping to get a call for a match soon! We wanted to thank everyone who donated their Hawaiian miles and gave monetary gifts, Casey was able to upgrade his seat going to and from Seattle! This fundraiser is for the friends and family of Casey's and mine who expressed their desire to help. Any and all contributions will go towards a fund to help Casey pay his medical expenses and travel expenses and can get back to work and continue living and doing what he loves.....cooking!
