Casey's African Adventure

So what is an adventurer to do when they hit a crossroads in life, are searching for a way to spread some love and Jesus somewhere in the far reaches of the world, and happen to have 6 months of time in between their Disney tours?..... well that’s a good question that I recently found the answer too!

After doing a whole lot of praying and pondering, I have decided to move to Africa for 6 months and help lead missionary teams across the different nations of Southern Africa with an organization called Youth With A Mission.

This particular organization holds a special place in my heart because I was a student in the program in New Zealand a few years back. The theme of this program is “To know God and to make Him known.” I’ll be spending 3 months at a missionary base in Malawi, Africa serving an international team of students as they take this time to learn from missionaries that will fly in from around the world to teach as well as through serving in the community. I will be responsible for mentoring and teaching a small group and leading volunteer projects for our team.

The second part consists of, putting what we have learned to use by backpacking to countries nearby and volunteering with different Justice issues such as human trafficking. Prior to departing, I’ll be helping to coordinate the different out reach projects. Once we leave I’ll be responsible for leading one of the teams.

Over the years I’ve learn to lead group tours, embrace new cultures, backpack in many different places, and have developed a huge heart for missions and volunteering.Volunteering with Youth With A Mission in Africa will be the perfect opportunity for me to utilize my strengths and passions. I’ll also be surrounded by an incredible team that I will be able learn so much from.

I’ll admit it gang, after 3 years traveling in total comfort with Adventures by Disney, I’ve gone a bit soft. This mission trip is gonna force me out of my comfort zone and cause me to get my mind off myself and focus on helping others.

I’d also like to ask you to be praying for me, I’m not feeling very tough and the idea of leaving right now doesn’t feel comfortable and easy. Please pray that I’ll understand God’s plan for me along the way and that I’ll be a good leader for my team.

Lastly, I wanted to offer the opportunity to partner with me financially if you’d like to. To be fully transparent, I can afford to pay nearly the full amount needed which will be around $6,500. I am looking to raise about half that if possible to offset the cost a bit and allow me to give to different causes that surface along the way. As a leader I’d like to bless my team and bless the locals as much as I can as well as keep a bit in saving for any emergencies and unforeseen expenses that always come up.

Love you all and please keep in touch and feel free to follow my journey, I’ll try to keep you as up to date as possible.
