I am Sandy Casey and my 82 year old mother has been ailing for the past few months. She has been in and out of hospitals and rehabilitation facilities since October. She was just two days away from getting back to the family home she has had for over 60 years. And, having spoken to her Sunday morning, that is all she wanted to do.
However, the horrendous cold in the North East forced the pipes to freeze. My brother, using every right protocol there is to deal with this situation, tried to unfreeze them. Somehow heat went up the wall and the house went up in flames. The fire department struggled putting the fire out due to water issues caused by the cold weather and not enough fire hydrants in the town.
My mother and brother have lost everything. Blankets, towels, clothes, socks, shoes, pots, pans, dishes, furniture, photos; necessities and many years of memories. We need to rebuild them from scratch, and we have no idea where to begin, but, we have to begin immediately. First thing is getting her into a new home. The insurance company wants her to get into a trailer on the property, which, is unacceptable considering she is disabled. And, we don't want her looking at what "was" every day. I just don't think her heart could take it. We need her in an apartment for the interim, where it will be warm and safe and friendly for the disabled. This of course comes with up front deposits and household needs.
My mom has been devastated, as you can imagine. She is still in the state of shock. If there is anything you can do to help not only would it be appreciated, but, maybe it can give her something positive to focus on rather than this dark cloud over our entrie family right now.
We would all be so grateful for anything you can help us with.
