CASANTINI STRONG

Donation protected
On October 14, 2018, our lives were thrown a curveball. My father, Alex Casantini, was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia. ALL is a type of cancer that effects the blood and bone marrow through the white blood cells. This type of cancer is very commonly associated with children. He also carries a genetic chromosome called a Philadelphia chromosome. This is a mutation that causes two chromosomes to form together to make one. The chemo can cause this chromosome to split. And if it splits, the result can be life threatening. As long as he is receiving chemo, he will need to take a special pill along with it.

It was simply a case of "bad luck" that he was diagnosed with this at 43 years old. And if anyone knows my father, "bad luck" just so happens to be his middle name.

My father is a very well known man in our community. We have learned that very quickly through all the support we have gotten in the passed week since he was diagnosed. We cannot thank everyone enough for all the love we have received. Without you, we would not be able to be as strong as we have been. Again, we thank you.

He is mostly known for his role as general manager of the Beneficial Society of Victor Emmanuel II. This place is my father's life, his "baby" some people might say. He loves it; the work, his employees, his customers, everything. Unfortunately, my dad is going to be without his "baby" for a little while. And I just know it is going to kill him.

His doctors, who have been simply amazing to say the least, say it could be anywhere from 6 months to a year until he can return to work. This bump in the road is going to turn into a mountain very quickly.

My father is not one to ask for help. He is a proud man who would give everything he had to anyone before he asked for help for himself. He is selfless. I, however, can accept the we are going to need all the help we can get; physically, emotionally and financially. Insurance will not cover everything. The cost of the pills for his Philadelphia chromosome alone will be thousands of dollars.

Everyone has been helping our family get through this with their thoughts and prayers. And, again, we cannot thank you enough. I am asking you, whoever you are reading this, to please consider helping our family just a little bit more. Any amount you can give to help us reach our goal will help us tremendously.

Please continue with all the prayers! I don't know if we could get through this without everyone's support. YOU are the reason my dad wakes up every single day with more fight in him than he went to sleep with the night before.  YOU are the reason we have been able to hold it together when all we want to do in crumble from the weight of everything. It would be so easy to give up. It would be so easy to cry and be angry. But, we will not give in to the fear. We will not give in to the sadness. We will keep the faith, we will stay positive, and we will be strong. We are Casantini strong. We love you and thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

Sincerely,
the Casantini family
