Casagrande Flood Recovery
Donation protected
Tim and Candice Casagrande live with their children Sierra & Dusty on the Tumbulgum / Condong stretch of the Tweed River. As you'll most likely be aware, this beautiful area was one of the hardest hit by the devastating floods of early March 2022.
When rainfall and water levels began to far exceed expectations and forecasts, Tim & Candice quickly packed a bag each, got the kids in the car, and left just in time before their one exit road became a part of the river. Immediately after, in the emergency response phase of this event, dozens of families in the area who didn't get out in time were evacuated by boat or jet ski.
When water levels receded several days later, they returned by boat to discover that their home had been inundated - completely swamped by floodwater and tons of toxic mud.
Like many other homes in the Northern Rivers, the Casagrande's house needed to be completely stripped bare and cleaned out to prevent further damage and mould. Almost everything will now need replacing to be liveable again for Tim, Candice and their two kids. This situation is made infinitely more challenging due to flood insurance being unaffordable for most residents of the area, especially since the 2017 floods. And while that was called a "once in a 100-year event" by many, it's now been exceeded by an even more catastrophic flood, just 5 years later.
The Casagrande’s had been working tirelessly towards lifting their home to prevent this very situation but with a lot of red tape they couldn’t get it across the line before Christmas. Hopefully, this fundraiser will contribute to that in the longer term, but in the short term, it will go a long way to restoring their house to get this incredible family back on their feet. Any donations from the Casagrande's wider community are greatly appreciated no matter how small. And if you'd also like to donate to the wider flood recovery effort, we wholeheartedly endorse the amazing work done over at GivIt (link below). Thank you!
