Casa de Peregrinos- Food Drive
Tax deductible
Our goal is to raise money for Casa de Peregrino's food pantry.
We are a student group in a Health Communication class at New Mexico State University. We are working directly with Casa de Peregrinos to organize a virtual food drive that has never been done before!
We are raising money instead of physical food. This is because the food pantry has the ability to make money go further with discount agreements to buy in bulk from food suppliers. Also, they know exactly what food the community is in need of.
Did you know that New Mexico is ranked the highest in child hunger two years running?
Casa de Peregrinos is a non-profit emergency food program designed to provide basic, nutritional food boxes and a supportive atmosphere to individuals and families unable to purchase nutritional groceries due to an emergency or unforeseen crisis.
It is not an indefinite source of relief.
Casa de Peregrinos Emergency Food Program has been serving Las Cruces and Dona Ana County since 1979.
It is the area’s largest emergency food pantry.
The flagship pantry is located at the Community of Hope campus and serves the greater Las Cruces area.
They also have 13 pantries in strategically places rural communities in proximity to the colonias of our county.
They even added 7 new pantries in 2016, 5 at the senior enters in Las Cruces and two at the campuses of DACC.
More than 2,300 families are served every month in the 21 pantries.
36% of the people they serve in Las Cruces are children.
28% of the people they serve in the rural pantries are seniors.
Last year they distributed 2.5 million pounds of food in our county.
They are currently on place to distribute 3 million pounds of food in 2017.
They are not a food bank, they are a food panty, they are the direct service to the hungry. As fast as food comes in it gets distributed to those in need.
Casa de Peregrinos is grateful for the continued community support and business partnership it has built over 37 years.
Thank you!
