My name is Andrew Casablanca, our brother Dan and his family lost so much in the flooding that occurred this week in NJ. They were excited to find a new apartment in Hillsborough NJ last month, when you move into a new place you never imagine that within a few weeks all of it can be gone, but that is what happened to my brother and his family. Having a child with Autism Spectrum Disorder, a huge upheaval in the daily schedule, sleeping arrangements, being exposed to new sights and sounds, are all a major challenge. When the river started to flood, the three of them with their
cat in tow were able to make their way to an empty studio apartment on the third floor of their building. Their basement storage area was entirely underwater and their first floor apartment took on 3-4 feet of muddy, debris filled water. They lost all of their furniture, most of their clothes, household items and hardest of all, Logan’s specialized toys, puzzles and learning materials. Renter’s insurance does not cover flood related losses. Both of their cars were submerged and destroyed, also.
Besides being exhausted, feeling defeated, and scared, they have to leave again and start over. We have a big family and we can move things, try to salvage important items and support them. We are asking for help for them, all funds will be going directly to them, so they can stay in the school district that has worked so well with Logan and make the transition less stressful.
