Hi, my name is Anka. I am an architect and midwife and I am honored to support the Zavala family – the daughters, sons, and relatives of Maya midwife and healer Nana Rosalía. For generations, they have preserved the sacred knowledge of their ancestors, and today, their mission is to share it through deep, respectful, and holistic care for mothers, babies, and families in their community.

Living in rural Guatemala, the Zavala family embodies the Maya worldview, connecting to nature, life cycles, and the sacred fire that guides their healing work. From this mission, a dream has grown: Casa Tortuga – the House of Birth and Life. This holistic space will support women and families from conception through birth and postpartum, promoting autonomy, sustainability, and respect for nature.

Casa Tortuga will provide safe births in rural areas, promote health and education for women, babies, and families, train new midwives and healthcare professionals, and preserve the cultural heritage of Maya midwifery. All care is personal and culturally respectful, and the center works closely with local medical facilities to ensure professional support when needed.

Sustainability is central to the project. Through training programs, workshops, postpartum retreats, and the sale of herbal medicine and handicrafts, the Zavala family keeps their traditions alive, strengthens the community, and passes on the Maya worldview of care and knowledge to future generations.

Casa Tortuga. Haus für Geburt und Heilkunst der Maya

Hallo, mein Name ist Anka. Ich bin Architektin und Hebamme und sammle Spenden für die Familie Zavala – die Töchter, Söhne und Angehörigen der Maya-Hebamme und Heilerin Nana Rosalía. Seit Generationen bewahrt diese Familie das kostbare Wissen ihrer Ahninnen und Ahnen.

Die Familie sieht es als ihre Aufgabe, das Wissen weiterzugeben: durch eine liebevolle, respektvolle und ganzheitliche Begleitung von Müttern, Babys und Familien in ihrer Gemeinschaft. Sie lebt im ländlichen Guatemala, im Einklang mit der Maya-Kosmovision, die sie mit der Natur, den Lebenszyklen und dem heiligen Feuer verbindet, das ihre Heilarbeit leitet.

Aus dieser Mission heraus ist ein Traum entstanden: ein Haus der Geburt und des Lebens – ein ganzheitlicher Raum, der Frauen* und Familien von der Empfängnis bis ins Wochenbett und darüber hinaus begleitet. Ein Ort, der Autonomie stärkt, Nachhaltigkeit lebt, den Respekt vor der Natur fördert und das Wissen der Mayas bewahrt.

Ich bin dankbar, die Familie Zavala auf diesem Weg begleiten zu dürfen.
