Support Joey's Recovery
Donation protected

I am creating this GoFundMe at the suggestion of friends who were shocked at how much I paid to keep Joey, a 2-year-old Manx cat, alive after he was diagnosed with a blocked urethra last April. It was a life or death situation for Joey that required multiple surgeries and almost a week of overnight stay at the 24/7 emergency ($$$) vet in Boulder.
When Meredith died of breast cancer on January 7th of this year, she entrusted me to keep care of our two young cats. Of those two cats, Joey is the one that cuddles with me at night, loves to jump on my shoulders, and has truly served as a support animal for me in the wake of Meredith's death. I did everything I could for Meredith, how could I not do the same for Joey? Given how Joey gave Meredith such immense pleasure during her last two years of life, it didn't even feel like a choice for me. But after the first surgery didn't work, then came a second, then a third, and the bill came out to almost $20,000 as of this writing. No insurance, alas. I foolishly thought Joey being an indoor-only cat would spare him medical emergencies. And we're not out of the forest yet: it's expensive prescription cat foods and fancy cat litter for the rest of Joey's life, along with continued incontinence issues that are keeping me in caregiver mode.
I have a Home Equity Loan, a low mortgage, and am blessed with loving family and friends. This is not a plea for help from someone in desperate need. It is, however, a place where those who want to help can do so, be it as an animal lover or be it in honor of Meredith - who loved Joey as much as Joey loved her.
