I have been battling the county to renovate our bathroom for our daughter’s needs. She is 36 & functions at 18 months old, she has a rare syndrome called PURA syndrome. Her body is slowly becoming more involved with her disability. She is losing her ambulation and ability to stand and walk. After battling for 10 years, we were so excited that on July 1 our dream was going to start with a construction company coming in and removing our present bathroom and replacing it with one that would suit her needs. Our dream quickly became the biggest nightmare for our family. From July 1 to July 14 we suffered a flood from the wrong piping from the plumber and lost our dryer to the electrician cutting wires while not having our electric off and sending a surge to our dryer, which now does not work. The plumber also cut a big square into our main beam that supports our bathroom floor, which needs to be replaced before our new bathroom goes in. We were hesitant to let them back in our house but we’re encouraged to allow them to fix the things they have done wrong. On July 14, they came in our house for the last time in which they worked all day cutting pipe and trying to re-pipe the wrong plumbing And pulling down insulation in which laid on our floor and every time our boiler went on to heat our hot water it sucked in the fragments of plastic and insulation. They left at 5 o’clock and by 11 o’clock. My husband was sleeping, my children were in their bedrooms, and I was headed to the shower And before stepping in the shower, I threw a load of laundry in which required hot water and then I quickly jumped in the shower, which required hot water as well and after being in the shower about four minutes, I could hear my children screaming for my husband, and immediately there was a bang on the door asking me to get out of the shower Because there was a fire in our home. The craziness and chaos sent us all into a tizzy as we ran around, trying to see where the smoke was coming from & it was hard to breathe, and my children had to be exited outside as they were struggling. We called the fire company and police who arrived swiftly. The carbon monoxide in our house was very high And we are lucky to be alive. Our boiler caught on fire and thankfully my children acted quickly, and my husband knew to turn the boiler off which stopped the flame. The fire company placed fans and our exit ways and removed the carbon monoxide. My special needs daughter And our family now has no bathroom, no hot water, damage to our downstairs bedroom from the water that flooded from wrong piping and a floor joist that is now weak and we have exhumed all ways to correct the damage that they caused. Going through our homeowners will increase our mortgage payment And it will be doubled, which is unfair to our family to be punished for something we didn’t cause. Going to a lawyer is extremely expensive and again money we don’t have to put out and find unfair because we again did not cause the damage. We went to the insurance company of the contractors And found that wrong workmanship is not liable for a claim however, they will partially cover our boiler, which was only four years old and paid for in full so again we will have another payment which is not fair to our family because we didn’t cause this mess. The only resolution was turning to you, our TikTok family and hoping that you can help us with funds so we can start digging out of this mess that someone else created. My children are suffering as well as my husband and I. I am greatly saddened that our dream of a bathroom for my daughter special needs has been consumed and darkened by this nightmare we were left with. I am reassured that as you read my words and find it in your heart to help us get back.
