Hi everyone—

I hope this finds you well. I’ve been living on my own up here in Portland for a long time now—just me and, Gipper—and I take a lot of pride in the independence I’ve built. I’ve worked hard, stood on my own two feet, and made a life for us. Because of that, asking for help has never come easy to me.

But this time is different.

I’ve been accepted into a master’s program in international relations in Barcelona, Spain—a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity I simply cannot let pass. This isn’t just about school. It’s about growth, purpose, and building the life I’ve always dreamed of: one where I get to work across cultures, contribute to global change, and say yes to the future I’ve fought so hard to reach.

WHY I’M DOING THIS

I’ve worked at Safeway for the past five years, and through that job, I put myself through Portland State University, graduating with honors—nearly all on my own. I’ve worked 40+ hours a week, week in and week out, just to keep things afloat. It hasn’t always been easy, but I’ve made it work.

Today, I live a modest but stable life here in Portland. I have a roof over my head, food in the fridge, and I’m proud of the independence I’ve carved out. But the truth is, comfort isn’t the same as fulfillment, and it’s a far cry from what’s needed to make this relocation a reality.

This master’s program in international relations at IBEI in Barcelona is my chance to take everything I’ve worked for and finally build something bigger. It’s about stepping into the world, growing beyond my circumstances, and preparing myself for a career that bridges cultures and shapes policy on a global scale.

WHY I NEED HELP

Despite working full-time, saving diligently, and securing a spot at one of Europe’s top international relations programs, the financial burden of this move is simply too great for me to carry alone. I’ve applied for grants, I’m seeking a loan, and I’m doing everything in my power to make this work. But the truth is, even the most determined person sometimes needs a hand.

I’ve always been proud of getting by on my own. But right now, I’m standing at a crossroads—with one path leading toward the same routine, and the other toward a future I’ve dreamed about for years. For once, I can see that future clearly. It’s within reach. I just need help getting there.
