Hello, my name is Carter Freeman, and I’m currently working toward achieving the rank of Eagle Scout. For my Eagle Scout Service Project, I’ve partnered with Nature Forward at Woodend Sanctuary in Chevy Chase, MD. This sanctuary has been a special place for me and my family — especially during the pandemic, when my sister and I spent countless hours walking the trails, exploring nature, and finding peace there. Now, I have the opportunity to give back to a place that has given me so much.
For my project, I will design, build, and install five predator-resistant birdboxes to replace older, damaged ones on the sanctuary’s property. These custom-built boxes will provide safe nesting habitats for native bluebirds and other species, while also protecting them from predators such as sparrows and snakes. Each box will feature a proper entrance hole size, a hinged roof for cleaning access, and a snake guard to keep the birds safe.
The goal of this project is to support local bird populations, contribute to conservation efforts, and improve the experience for sanctuary visitors. By creating durable, carefully designed nesting boxes, I’ll be helping Nature Forward continue its mission of environmental education and wildlife protection.
To complete this project, I need to raise around $500 to cover the cost of lumber, hardware, tools, and other supplies. Any funds raised will go directly toward purchasing these materials, and any excess will be donated to Nature Forward.
I’m incredibly grateful for any support you can give — whether that’s through a donation, sharing this page with others, or offering words of encouragement. This project is not only a requirement for Eagle Scout, but also a chance for me to show leadership, serve my community, and leave behind something meaningful.
Thank you for helping me make this project possible and for supporting me on my journey to Eagle Scout!
