Carter's Care Fund
Donation protected
This fund is being created on behalf of my daughter Melissa and her amazing dog, Carter.
Melissa is one of the most positive people I know and encourages others whenever possible. Melissa is employed full-time and is currently in school to achieve her Master’s degree. She has worked hard to maintain an independent lifestyle with little debt and minimal finances to spare. In the past few weeks Carter became severely ill requiring hospitalization. The costs incurred so far have already challenged Melissa financially and Carter is still ill.
Carter became sick almost three weeks ago and since then has been seen by his regular vet and has spent three overnights in the hospital. During this time they have performed multiple blood panels, ultra-sounds, x-rays, cultures, IV’s with fluids and antibiotics yet the root cause of all his symptoms has not yet been identified.
Her current veterinarian bill, including medications, is $5,000 and he is not out of the woods yet. We are asking our friends, family and the community to assist in paying his costs, so that he can continue to be treated.
Melissa has Pet Accident Insurance, unfortunately this event does not qualify as an accident and is not covered by insurance. Melissa had to open a line of credit to pay for his veterinarian bills and medicines.
IF you are able to donate towards Carter’s cost, NO amount is too small. Currently, you have the option of contributing here, on Go Fund Me, or if you prefer to pay towards the line of credit you can message me through this site or contact me directly and I will provide you with more information.
Melissa and Carter’s Story
Carter is a middle-aged, long-haired Dachshund who was abandoned as a toddler at an animal food supply store. Melissa and Carter found each other in 2014 where she became his foster-mom. After falling in love with him and becoming a ‘foster-fail’, they have been inseparable.
They have been through thick and thin together and are each other’s support system. Carter has been through a lot, and even survived a viscous attack in 2017 from a much larger dog.
Since he became ill three-weeks ago he has lost 20% of his body weight and is still having difficulty eating, drinking and is very lethargic. At just 7-years old we feel Carter still has a lot of life left in him, he just needs the time and resources to heal.
Thank you in advance for any help you are able to provide, financially or through positive thoughts and prayers.
