Nicole and Dan welcomed their beautiful son Carter Patrick on Oct 31st at 30 weeks.
In addition to facing the challenges with being born premature Carter was also diagnosed with cystic fibrosis (CF) a genetic disease that limits lung function. CF can also affect the digestive system.
Before Carter was born doctors found out that he had a bowel obstruction and would need surgery soon after birth.
On Nov 2nd he had surgery to remove the damaged part of his intestines.
On January 9th Carter went in for a second surgery, to correct a new issue with his stomach. During this surgery, they also placed a drain into his brain for excess fluid built up as a result of a large stroke.
Carter is expected to have at least one more brain surgery but a date is not set yet.
In addition to these multiple surgeries Carter will need extensive therapies and medications. Unfortunately these are not cheap. Carter will also need to be fitted for a custom CF vest and he will need a new one every time he grows out of it.
While the exact cost of all these procedures, medications and therapies isn't known yet, it is expected that three invasive surgeries, a long term stay in the NICU and the cost of travel to visit Carter daily in the NICU will add up quickly.
We have had a ton of family and friends reach out about how they can help so thus this GoFundMe was created ❤️
Nicole and Dan have been so strong for their little boy and we want to do whatever we can to alleviate the challenges of this situation so that they can focus on loving and caring for Carter in his recovery.
