After battling Diffuse B-cell and follicular Non-Hodgkins lymphoma  for over 22 years, our dad has started the process for CAR-T cell immunotherapy. This intensive treatment will
hopefully lead to a much awaited long term remission.  On May 3rd he went to University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia to start the process and extract the t-cells. Once extracted, the cells are sent out to become “super-charged” to fight off the cancer. Before he can receive the new and improved cells, he will have to undergo a round of intense chemotherapy. By the end of June, the cells should be ready to put back into his body and begin to fight. During this time, he will have to stay in Philadelphia for approximately a month in order to be monitored for side effects that can accompany the procedure. 
Our family has been traveling back and forth to Philadelphia for the past couple of months in order to make sure he is ready for the procedure.  During this time, he has developed a lung infection that has required him to spend even more time in Philadelphia to run various tests, treat his breathing and get him healthy enough to undergo the CAR-T. This has become a huge financial
strain on the family due to all of the travel expenses. The financial strain will continue during the month he stays. Someone will have to be with him the entire time which will result in many trips down and back between all of us.  We’re hoping that raising money can help cover the costs that will not be covered by insurance.
