Carrying Hope to Chemo Patients

My name is Naomi Herman. I am a sophomore in high school living in Chicago, Illinois. Before I was born, my mom was diagnosed with stage 3-4 cancer. She then had surgery for two other cancers throughout my childhood. Cancer has impacted my mom’s and my family's lives tremendously, and I find it so important to care for others going through similar struggles.

I wanted to raise funds to make goodie bags for people going through chemotherapy. My friend Myles and I will work together to sew, embroider, and decorate tote bags which we will use to fill with essentials needed while going through chemo (socks, blankets, snacks, chapsticks, etc.). I compiled the supplies list from the items my mom needed and suggestions from nurses. These bags will be going to patients at the Maggie Daley Center for Women's Cancer Care at Northwestern, the same unit where my mom received her chemotherapy. The same nurses who helped her survive are the ones who will deliver the essentials to their patients now! These patients are of all ages with breast and gynecologic cancer. Any donations are accepted and deeply appreciated!
