As I sit here in the very airport where I dropped my mother off just ten days ago, waiting to check in for my flight to the Dominican Republic to bring her back home… I can’t help but wonder if I’m sitting in the same seat she sat in. I’m overwhelmed with sadness.

My mom was everything to me. She was everything to my brothers, Willie and Edwin, and everything to my dad. We were her world—and she was ours.

I’m trying to stay strong for her because she was the strongest woman I’ve ever known. This loss was sudden and completely unexpected. None of us were prepared.

My mother was the most loving, selfless, and giving soul. She gave and gave and gave. She never asked for anything in return, and for that, she is most deserving. I only wish I could have given it to her while she was here.

I’m asking for help—not out of pride, but out of love. My mom deserves to be honored the right way, and any amount—even a dollar—would help us carry her home and give her the farewell she truly deserves.
