Carroll Elem. Library Renaming

On June 15, 2020, former Elk Grove Unified School District student Seth Smith was tragically killed just 1 mile from his home in Berkeley, CA. Seth attended our very own Carroll Elementary for 6 years of elementary school. He then went on to attend Elizabeth Pinkerton Middle School and then Cosumnes Oaks High School. He was attending the University of California at Berkeley at the time of his murder as a double major in economics and history.

Seth was an old, kind soul with a true love and passion for reading. He was extremely intelligent, caring, inquisitive, likable, and devoted to making an impact while living life to the fullest. He also respected and valued education as well as the theater arts. Seth left a lasting impression and touched the lives of many due to his kind, generous, giving, and beautiful soul. There was no doubt that Seth was going to make a difference in this world.

Tragically, Seth’s life was taken way too soon. However, even in death, Seth will continue to impact others positively. Buildings and facilities are often named after people to honor them and their legacy. Seth was a voracious reader and spent hours reading novels from the school library. Therefore, the library at Carroll Elementary School will be renamed in his honor. This building is the ideal place to pay tribute to Seth’s memory because it houses one of his great loves. Current and future students at Carroll Elementary will be able to visit the school library and perhaps be inspired to be passionate about reading, just like the young man the library is named after.

All funds raised will go towards the cost of the plaque pictured and the lettering on the quad side of the library. Any additional funds will help pay for Seth's Corner inside the library, where a bookshelf will be filled with books Seth enjoyed reading.
