My name is Carri Nazos. Most of you already know that. What most people don't know is the health issue I experienced that affected the use of my hands and my ability to walk on my own. I had a two-week hospital visit that included neck surgery; 30 days of in-home health that included a 24-hour antibiotic PICC line; and months of learning how to walk and write again that included a very patient husband helping me with basic tasks like eating, using the bathroom and showering.
During my recovery, I applied and was denied for disability, unemployment, and a number of other agencies claiming to offer assistance. Facing that challenge in addition to trying to overcome my physical challenges has been exhausting. I still try, everyday, and I'll never quit, but I need help.
I haven't told a lot of people. I didn't log into social media for over a year. Everyone has problems and challenges, and I've tried my best not to be a downer. Focusing on the negative aspects of my situation made me feel worse, even physically, when I needed to focus on being positive and getting better.
In the meantime, I lost my house and am even getting very close to losing my new home after living here less than a year. Moving wasn't easy, physically or emotionally. Asking for help is even harder. But here I am. Asking.
