Carrington Goes to Dutch National Ballet!
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Carrington Martin and I am a pre-professional ballerina from Richmond, Virginia! I’m a student at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts, where I dance about 7 hours a day, five to six days a week, working towards my BFA in Classical Ballet. I am about to finish my 3rd year of training there and love it!

Every summer, as an extension and progression of dance training, it is expected that dancers attend a summer intensive program. These programs typically last between 2-6 weeks and give dancers exposure to new teachers, forms of dance, and environments. I have been lucky enough to attend summer programs at Boston Conservatory, Nashville Ballet, Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre, and Richmond Ballet.

A few weeks ago I was accepted into Dutch National Ballet's Summer School in collaboration with the Amsterdam International Summer School. With your help, I’ll be able to train in Amsterdam, working with Wayne McGregor, Resident Choreographer of the Royal Ballet, and other world-renowned faculty.

I am thrilled for this opportunity, having always wanted to dance at Dutch National Ballet. However, there are many expenses that need to be addressed. The program costs about €1,900 (Euros) which is about $2,160. That doesn’t include airfare, pointe shoes, and leotards, which could easily be another $1,300. My family has helped me by paying what they can towards the cost of the program but college is expensive and they’re helping a lot with that! I will be working this summer to help pay for my training and have applied for grants, but right now there’s no telling how far that will get me.
